Solanum Mammousum

A wild tropical fruit with mysterious healing power and the beauty of feminine shapes. Mammousum is a duo, made in 2001 with a Hasselblad camera in black and white film.

I was driving one day, it was one of those rainy gray days in São Paulo, and I saw this bing branch with weird orange fruit just abandoned on the harsh grey side walk. I couldn’t resist the temptation, so I stopped the car, picked it up and went to the studio. I was amazed by its shape, texture and rhythm of the fruits on that long branch. It reminded me of feminine shapes. Delicate and soft. I was inspired by Edward Weston’s photo of his famous pepper.
